Citizenship

BECOME CANADIAN CITIZENS

Les Canadiens sont fiers de leur citoyenneté , des droits et des libertés qu'elle leur confère

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is the federal department that administers Canadian citizenship for both applicants for citizenship and current Canadian citizens.

Since 2010, Canada has welcomed an average of over 260,000 permanent residents each year. Many of these newcomers are becoming Canadian citizens, and many more will apply for Canadian citizenship in the future. We are proud to accompany many of them!

Eligibility for Canadian citizenship

A Canadian immigrant can apply for citizenship after living in Canada as a permanent resident for at least three of the last five years.

NOTE: It is important to review the documents that were provided to you when you first became a permanent resident to ensure that all of the general conditions have been met. If any of the general conditions are not met, you may not be eligible for Canadian citizenship. Call us so that we can review the facts of your situation together. For example, you may not be eligible for Canadian citizenship if:

  • You have a criminal record or are facing criminal charges in Canada or abroad;
  • You have been ordered to leave Canada;
  • You have been denied Canadian citizenship because of a false statement

The citizenship application

You will need to meet several requirements before you can apply for citizenship. Afterwards, you will also have to pass a citizenship test.

Permanent residents of Canada have many rights, but not all the rights of Canadian citizens
