IMMIGRATION AND REFUGEE BOARD OF CANADA
La Commission de l’immigration et du statut de réfugié du Canada (CISR) est le plus important tribunal administratif indépendant au Canada. Sa mission consiste à rendre de manière efficace, équitable et conforme à la loi des décisions éclairées sur des questions touchant à l’immigration et au statut de réfugié. Une des responsabilités de la CISR consiste à déterminer qui a besoin de protection parmi les milliers de demandeurs d’asile qui se présentent tous les ans au Canada.
Type of services offered by the IRB
In order to accomplish its mission, the IRB is divided into four sections:
- Refugee Protection Division: This section is responsible for accepting or rejecting refugee claims made in Canada.
- Refugee Appeal Division: hears appeals of certain decisions made by the Refugee Protection Division.
- Immigration Section: It conducts investigations of foreign nationals or permanent residents who are suspected of being inadmissible or subject to removal. In addition, this section reviews the grounds for detention of persons detained for immigration purposes.
- Immigration Appeal Division: hears appeals of immigration decisions, such as
- the refusal of a sponsorship application (other than in the Spouse or Common-law Partner in Canada Class) by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada;
- Appeals relating to a removal order from Canada.
File a complaint with the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada
Who can lodge a complaint?
Any person may file a complaint with the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada (IRB) regarding:
- conducted by a member of the IRB;
- a person who represents a client at the IRB for a fee, but who is not authorized to do so by a law society, the Chambre des notaires du Québec or the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants
- the conduct and services of an interpreter.
